What is a Porcelain Veneer?
In this video, Dr. Jim Ellis, DDS explains what a veneer is, in dentistry.
In dentistry, a veneer simply is… most people can relate to a fake fingernail that women will get placed over their regular fingernails to make their fingernails either longer, or wider, or more attractive, or thicker, whatever it may be, basically, that’s what a veneer is.
Some people do not like the color, the shape, the size, the length, the thickness of their teeth, and veneers can be used to change any of that. You choose the color, you choose the shape, you choose the length of what you would like the veneer to look like, and we can do it. There are always certain restrictions, but for the most part, anything that you would like to have done with your teeth can be done with a veneer.
A veneer is simply glued to the front of your tooth, just like the fingernail is glued to there. The idea behind a veneer, however, is unlike the fingernail that needs to be replaced, the veneer is a very, very long term prosthesis and as long as you treat them correctly and follow the instructions of your dentist, they should be with you for years to come.
