Ogden Dentist Video #2:
What is a Canker Sore (Aphthous Ulcer)?
In this video, Dr. Jim Ellis, DDS (a dentist in Ogden Utah) discusses what is a canker sore.
A canker sore is a byproduct of an autoimmune condition. Autoimmune simply meaning that your body attacks itself. Scientists don’t know when, where, how this happens, but for some reason, your body will initiate something that responds in a canker sore.
Canker sores can be treated by a number of different things. Basically, the thing that people do the most is to simply deal with the symptoms. There are topical jellies and things that can be placed on it that you can get over the counter that will lessen the sensitivity until the canker sore goes away. If canker sores are constant, if they never go away, if it’s one after another, after another, after another, then it’s possible that you are deficient in something. There have been studies that show that there are deficiencies in certain vitamins and minerals that possibly your body might need to have replenished that you lack in, but canker sores are simply an autoimmune condition that you will have for the rest of your life, it just depends on how often they will reappear in your mouth.
